Dr. Lauren Bridges is an Assistant Professor of Media Studies at the University of Virginia, faculty co-lead of the Digital Technology for Democracy Lab at the University of Virginia, and faculty affiliate at the Berkman Klein Center for Internet & Society at Harvard University. Her research focuses on digital infrastructure governance, community resilience, and the interaction between data center infrastructure growth, and environmental outcomes. Dr. Bridges has published in peer-reviewed journals, public news outlets such as Tech Policy Press and The Guardian, and she is regularly interviewed in media regarding the social and environmental impacts of big data infrastructures. She is currently writing a book on the local land use politics of digital industrial expansion in Southern California and Northern Virginia.
