Local filmmaker James Sanford is looking for a cinematographer/DP; sound recorders/mixers; maybe a stills photographer to help with his project, "Tom Sawyer's Black Friday," from May 13 through May 20. $40 per shooting day, with meals included. They are looking for people who can supply their own equipment. The idea is to create a movie with something of an old-style cinematic look, or as close as to that as can be achieved in the digital age. The Teaching & Research Sub-Committee of the University Sustainability Committee, with support from the Environmental Resilience Institute (ERI), is pleased to announce the launch of the inaugural: Summer Decarbonization Academy: June 13 – August 5, 2022. This will be a paid, hands-on learning experience drawing together students, faculty, and staff to work towards UVA’s goals of being carbon-neutral by 2030 and fossil fuel-free by 2050.

The Virginia Association of Broadcasters offers paid summer internships to rising juniors and seniors who are interested in radio or television. They place qualified students at a member radio or television station for eight weeks in the summer wherever they are located throughout the Commonwealth. Attached is the internship brochure as well as the application. While the deadline for this summer has passed, they are still hoping for more applicants, especially in the Charlottesville area. The Economist is seeking interns to write about foreign affairs. The internships will be London-based and paid. Anyone is welcome to apply, regardless of citizenship or any characteristic unrelated to the job. Applicants should send an original unpublished article of up to 600 words suitable for publication in The Economist’s foreign pages, a CV and a cover letter to foreignintern@economist.com. Virginia Polo, a UVA club sport, seeks a student magazine designer to help create an annual 30 page magazine to send supporters for their annual fundraiser. The content will be ready to send to the designer the 2nd week of April and final files will need to go to the printer by the 1st of June. They have a small budget for this, but a wide reach. The Arts Center in Orange, VA, is looking to hire intern in social media and audio visual work: 

Social Media/Marketing Intern (16 hours per week): responsible for assisting in a range of marketing initiatives within The Arts Center in Orange. As an intern, they will be working closely with the Executive Director, Administrative Assistant, and Programs Coordinator. Working in a team setting will provide them with real hands-on projects and daily tasks that use social media platforms to promote and manage The Arts Centers online presence. Interns will be able to apply classroom based knowledge to projects and gain essential skills needed to be career ready.  The Arts Center in Orange is dedicated to developing successful leaders, and we strive to make this internship as realistic and informative as possible.

Audio/Visual intern (16 hours per week): assist with the photo and video needs of The Arts Center in Orange through planning, executing, and collaborating with the Executive Director. The Audio Visual (AV) Intern will be responsible for capturing, editing, and delivering photos and videos to support The Arts Center in Orange print and digital marketing materials. This position will work with our Social Media Marketing Intern, Administrative Assistant, and Programs Coordinator. The Collegiate SeriesFest Season 8 Festival is now open for submissions. They are accepting episodic pilot work as well as unpublished pilot scripts until March 3rd - winners will be showcased at the in-person festival May 5th-11th in Denver, CO. The entry fee is $25, any students who need financial assistance can receive a personalized waiver code.The Series would love to have an East Coast presence at the collegiate level this year and want to highly encourage students to submit their work. Life After Sport; There’s More To It is a podcast started by Media Studies graduates and UVA student athletes to help normalize the mental health challenges and identity crises student athletes face upon graduating and leaving their sport for good. Each week, they talk with different retired student athletes about their stories, experiences, and advice. They’ve had Olympic athletes come on, professional athletes scheduled to come on, and athletes of all sports and colleges/universities…including a handful that are UVA grads. The podcast is small but growing and needs some production help—someone who is willing to edit raw audio, post on their socials, and come up with episode descriptions and Instagram captions. The Bowdoin Journal of Cinema is looking for work that offers deep insights, unique perspectives, and fresh takes on any topic in film/cinema studies.
