UVA's Department of Media Studies analyzes media culture, technology, labor, literacy, policy, infrastructure, and inequity. Our goal is to provide students with the tools to evaluate and shape media. With global reach, our faculty and students examine media from a variety of perspectives that include media history, aesthetics and form, audience analysis, media uses, the impact of media on public opinion, and the relations between media and the law.

Spring time at UVA is my favorite time of the year and the Pratt Ginkgo tree was my favorite sight to see. I would constantly find an excuse to walk by it every day, even if it meant walking across campus and leaving a few extra minutes early to class.

Benjamin Borenstein

One of my favorite memories at UVA is a group applause on the last day of a class at the end of a meaningful semester. I have appreciated the broad exposure of coursework I have received with a double major in Media Studies and Spanish. One factor that has united all of my academic experiences is showing appreciation for professors and classmates on the last day by applauding and showing gratitude during the last class. This ritual was not the same on Zoom.

My favorite class is Shooting the Western, taught by William Little. My love for media, films and writing grew exponentially after this class. Thank you Professor Little!

Katia Rabinowitch

It is really hard to consolidate 4 years of memories into one, but I think the one that I will always remember is the National Championship run. The entire school came together and I will always remember dancing and screaming on 14th st. with a thousand other students. That was such a moment of unity and celebration and we rode that high for weeks after the win. Go Hoos!
